Connecticut Soccer Hall of Famer (class of 1999) and Connecticut soccer
legend Frank Kantz has passed away, aged 81 years old. See Frank Kantz Obituary, and also here: "Frank Stephen Kantz went to soccer heaven at sunrise on August 4, 2010 in Farmington, Connecticut. Frank was predeceased by Joyce, his wife of fifty five years and is survived by his daughters Livia Jacobs and Faye Kantz, his son-in-law George Jacobs and grand-pets Busby, Eli and Jesús. Frank was born on November 13, 1928 in Mor, Hungary. He came to the U.S. in August 1951 and was extremely proud of being a U.S. citizen. Frank was passionate about the sport of soccer for his entire life as a player, coach, referee and fan. He became a certified soccer referee in 1957 and officiated games well into his 81st year. Frank was also a Referee Assessor and helped to found Farmington Youth Soccer. Frank played for Hartford Scandia, the New York Hungarians, the New York German-American League, and the New Britain Falcons. He was a charter member of the Connecticut Soccer Hall of Fame (1999) and a member of the New England Soccer Hall of Fame (2005). The Town of Farmington declared September 8, 2008 as Frank Kantz Day in recognition of his fifty plus years of dedication to the sport of soccer. Our most sincere thanks go to Frank's caregiver Rhonda Schmonda for being our angel during such a difficult time. A tribute to Frank's life will take place on Wednesday, August 11 at the Ahern Funeral Home, Unionville, CT. Calling hours are from 4-7, with a short presentation at 5:30. It was Frank's wish to be cremated and for his ashes to be scattered around the globe in his favorite places. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to: East Farmington Volunteer Fire Department, Inc., 94 South Road, Farmington, CT 06032. Frank was a great dad and was dedicated to his family. He also enjoyed a long and wonderful camaraderie with his Connecticut soccer family. There are many that will remember Frank when they step onto a soccer field. Our dear father will be greatly missed." |
