This year, the Donnelly Cup was held in conjunction with the Veterans Cup and was open to all State Select Teams as well as National League and Regional League Select/All-Star Teams, or, as an alternative to a State Association Select Team, a State Association sanctioned league select team. There were two groups, where the group winners played in the final. Each team also played one cross-over match. Group A: Connecticut, New Hampshire, Tri-State Selects (including New Hampshire and Vermont players) Group B: Massachussetts, Rhode Island, Latino Selects Connecticut beat Tri-State Selects 8-0 and Rhode Island 6-0 on Saturday. On Sunday, New Hampshire proved a tough opponent but Connecticut won 1-0, thereby qualifying for the final against host Massachussetts. Connecticut jumped out to a 2-0 lead after twenty minutes and won the match convincingly, 6-0. The squad consisted of ten players from Danbury United, CSL champions, five from Glastonbury Celtic FC (CSL) and two SASL players from Club Napoli, a strong Over-30 League Division one team and CSSA Over-30 State Cup champions. The team was organized by CSL President Jack Testani and coached by former PDL coach Leszek Wrona. Many congratulations to the Connecticut Select Team and to Jack Testani and Leszek Wrona for their dedication to Connecticut soccer and helping to make us a true powerhouse in the northeast.
